
The park is located in the province of Guanacaste. It contains great ecological diversity with approximately 15 different habitats. The natural hydrologic system of Palo Verde creates the right conditions to produce one of the most important habitats for aquatic birds in the country and Central America. From September to March, miles of sea gulls, herons, egrets, grebes, ibises, ducks and gallinules concentrate in the lagoons and neighboring areas to feed and reproduce. In the park, nests the Jabiru , the largest bird in Costa Rica and a species endanger of extinction.
