Just south of Quepos, 132 kms from San Jose, this park is very popular because of its extensive white sand beaches backed by an evergreen forest that grows right up to the high tide line. The principal habitats are primary and secondary forest, mangrove swamps, and lagoon and beach vegetation. The fauna is quite varied with 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds
