This 4,700 acre preserve is a transition zone between dry forest and the wetter region of the south. The trails reveal an amazing flora and fauna. During the rainy season, the Tarcoles Rivers floods its banks, creating a large lagoon that quickly fills with water hyacinths. Carara is a wonderful place to see the majestic Scarlet Macaw and the awesome crocodile.
